Worst load shedding, tripping, frequent cuts in electricity supply have turned the life of millions of people miserable across Pakistan in scorching heat.
The national grid, officials say, faces 40 per cent shortfall in demand and supply, forcing the power distribution companies (Discos) to conduct eight to 12 hours load shedding in their urban and rural limits.
The rural areas of the country are virtually left without electricity with 12 to 14 hours power shutdown in a day.
The unavailability of electricity creates severe water shortages, badly disrupting the daily routine life. Millions of people in Kachi abadis and under developed areas could not sleep at night properly due to blackouts. Tripping and abrupt cuts also damage electrical appliances, causing loss of billions of rupees to consumers.
Officials in power sector say there is average 12-hour load shedding in rural Punjab and Sindh. Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco), Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company (Tesco) and Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) are conducting eight hours and 12 hours load shedding in their urban and rural limits.
Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) and Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) conduct 12 hours average load shedding in rural Sindh.
The electricity load shedding in areas under Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco), Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco), Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) and Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) are under the grip of eight to 10 hours load shedding.
The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) is forced to conduct eight to 10 hours load shedding in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara and rural areas. The Lesco is facing around 1,000megawatt (MW) shortfall in demand and supply as it is receiving around 2,500MW from energy basket against demand of over 3,500MW.
The nation grid is facing around massive 10,000MW shortfall, officials say. The power generation is standing at 17,000MW while the demand crosses 27,000MW.
