On Saturday, a private hospital in Karachi became the scene of a distressing incident when a woman unexpectedly gave birth in the facility’s restroom and then vanished, leaving the newborn behind.
The case has since been labeled a shocking instance of maternal abandonment, prompting both medical and law enforcement authorities to intervene.
The woman, whose identity remains unknown, had reportedly come to Katiana Memon Hospital with her family, seeking medical attention for a minor issue requiring a drip.
While at the hospital, she requested to use the restroom. Unbeknownst to anyone, she went into labor and delivered a baby in the bathroom.
The delivery took everyone by surprise, including the hospital staff, who were not aware of the birth until after the woman had fled the premises, leaving the newborn unattended.
Ahmed Chinoy, Chairman of Katiana Memon Hospital, provided an account of the situation.
He stated that after discovering the baby in the restroom, hospital staff acted quickly to provide emergency first aid and ensure the infant’s well-being.
The baby was found in a fragile condition, but thanks to the prompt response from the medical team, the child’s life was saved.
