The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has disclosed the grounds for Shaheen Afridi’s dismissal from the Twenty20 International team, amidst much dispute about the selection of a new captain.
Babar Azam was named the new white-ball captain of the Pakistan Men’s national cricket team in a statement released by the country’s premier cricket body on Sunday.
Between 2019 and 2023, Babar has already captained Pakistan in 43 One-Day Internationals and 71 Twenty20 Internationals.
In an effort to guarantee player well-being and optimal performance, the cricket governing body reorganized the white-ball leadership.
Afridi’s captaincy would be passed on to Babar, who is well-known for his outstanding batting record in international cricket.
Even though Shaheen Afridi has unquestionably established himself as a brilliant fast bowler, the Pakistan Cricket Board stated that despite his years of spearheading Pakistan’s pace attack, the board understands the need of rest and rotation to keep Afridi performing at his best.
The PCB stated that this decision was made with workload management in mind in order to guarantee that Pakistan’s star bowlers continue to perform at the highest level.
