Ricky Ponting, the former captain of Australia, has declined to become the India coach.
During a brief meeting with the International Cricket Council (ICC), Ricky Ponting said that he was contacted to inquire about the position. However, he stated that the long-term commitment did not align with his current lifestyle, since he had several other commitments.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has set May 27 as the deadline for applications to become the next India head coach, after the announcement by head coach Rahul Dravid of his decision to step down. Numerous former players have been contacted for the position, including Ricky Ponting.
The Australian icon is presently the head coach of the Washington Freedom of Major League Cricket (MLC) and the Delhi Capitals of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In addition to being the head of strategy for the Hobart Hurricanes, he works for an Australian TV station.
“I’ve seen a lot of reports about it,” he stated in response to an offer for the India coach’s position in an interview with the ICC Review. These things usually become apparent on social media before you ever hear about them, but during the IPL, there were a few brief one-on-one discussions to gauge my interest in participating.
“Being a senior coach of a national team is something I’d really like to do, but it would also interfere with my other commitments and desire to spend some time at home. As everyone knows, if you take a position with the Indian team, you can’t work for an IPL side.”
“Furthermore, even though I would want to, being a national head coach only lasts for 10 or 11 months out of the year, and it doesn’t match with my current lifestyle or the things I truly like doing.”
