President of United States, Donald Trump on Wednesday announced the arrest of ISIS Khorasan Commander Muhammad Sharifullah.
Muhammad Sharifullah also known as Jafar was the master mind behind the Kabul Airport blast.
In 2021, a suicide bombing took place at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul,
during the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.
After Taliban taking over the Kabul on 15 August, Hamid Karzai International Airport was the only place to flew out of Afghanistan. Hundreds of ISIS K members were escaped from the Jails. Pentagon did warn about the threat of any possible attack and Joe Biden also received reports in anticipation. But it couldn’t get avoided.
The deadly attack killed 182 people including 13 members of the United States military.
At that time President Biden vowed to take revenge and said that “we will not forgive. We will not forget. We will hunt you down and make you pay.”
Due to Kabul attack, Mohammed Sharifullah was considered as high-profile target for Central Investigative Agency.
According to the sources Sharifullah was detained roughly 10 days ago from Pak Afghan border by Pakistani Intelligence –ISI.
President Trump described the Kabul Airport attack during the US withdrawal as one of the shameful moments in US history.
While addressing the joint session of Congress, Trump confirmed the arrest and also thanked Pakistan for helping them in the arrest.
Trump while talking about the apprehension said that “Three and a half years ago, a terrorist killed 13 American service members and countless others in the Abbey Gate bombing”
“Tonight, I am pleased to announce that we have just apprehended the top terrorist responsible for that atrocity. And he is right now on his way here to face the swift sword of American justice,” Trump spoke before a joint session of Congress.
After revealing the news of suspect’s arrest, Trump particularly showed gratitude towards Pakistani state for its role in the operation. “I want to especially thank the Pakistani government for helping arrest this monster, “he said.
He called it a very huge day for the affected families.
“This was a very momentous day for those 13 families, whom I actually got to know very, well, whose children were murdered. What a horrible day, “he added.
