When it comes to new features, WhatsApp often catches up to Telegram and similar apps. However, this time, WhatsApp was upgraded more significantly than Telegram.
Those who would rather read than hear voice messages now have an option with WhatsApp. Users may now follow discussions even if they are unable to listen to audio thanks to a new function that converts voice notes into text. This should be useful while you’re on the run or in a loud setting.
Because WhatsApp and no other third party may access the message content, this on-device transcription guarantees privacy.
The transcriptions will first be available in Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, and English for Android users. Additionally, iOS 16 users will have options in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Italian, and Turkish. additional languages, including Danish, Finnish, Hebrew, Malay, Norwegian, Dutch, Swedish, and Thai, after iOS 17.
This function is not currently support Urdu, thus audio communications in that language will not be accurately transcribed. Nevertheless, it ought to function better when Meta adds support for either Hindi or Urdu. It’s uncertain when voice message transcripts will support these languages.
To activate this function, go to Settings, Chats, and select the transcription option. You may choose “transcribe” by long-pressing a certain message.
Don’t worry if you don’t got the functionality yet; according to Meta, the global deployment will take place over the next weeks. Later on, more languages will also be added.
