Access to WhatsApp has been restricted in Pakistan, following the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests.
Internet monitoring company Netblocks has confirmed that WhatsApp has been restricted in Pakistan. The company also cited media reports and said that the authorities have taken this step in view of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf protests.
Netblocks has confirmed that WhatsApp services have been partially restricted in Pakistan, corroborating reports of disruptions to the messaging app. This development comes as authorities have heightened security measures amidst the ongoing PTI protests demanding the release of Imran Khan.
Earlier, various users had complained that they were facing difficulties in sending audio and video messages on WhatsApp.
Many different internet service providers confirm the blockage on various social media platforms. Netblocks also published a graphic showing zero percent WhatsApp access on most service providers. However, this graphic shows around 50 percent access on PTCL.
On the other hand, the roads leading to Shahdara and Bhatti Chowk, Lahore have also been closed from both sides, containers are also present on the Azadi Flyover, due to which the citizens are suffering, while a police contingent is present on the Azadi Flyover holding batons.
Lahore’s internal and external routes were sealed off with containers, effectively blocking all major roads and highways.
