The military has initiated court-martial proceedings against Lt. General (retd) Faiz Hameed, a former ISI chief, following his recent arrest, as confirmed by the army’s media division on Monday.
The statement from ISPR said, “Complying with the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry, was undertaken by the Pakistan Army, to ascertain the correctness of complaints in the Top City Case made against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd).”
“Consequently, appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd), under provisions of the Pakistan Army Act.”
“In addition, multiple instances of violation of the Pakistan Army Act post-retirement have also been established. The process of Field General Court Martial has been initiated and Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) has been taken into military custody,” the ISPR said.
Top City Islamabad, also referred to as Top City 1, is an upscale residential development situated in Pakistan’s capital. Developed by Kunwar Moeez Khan Constructions, the project spans a vast area and is known for offering premium housing options to elite buyers.
On May 12, 2017, the Pakistan Rangers, alongside ISI operatives, conducted a raid on the Top City office and the home of Moeez Khan. During the operation, they confiscated various valuables, including gold, diamond jewelry, and cash, all in connection to an alleged terrorism case.
A petition has surfaced, claiming that Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed’s brother, Sardar Najaf, attempted to mediate and resolve the situation. Following Hameed’s acquittal, he reportedly reached out to Moeez Khan through the latter’s cousin, a brigadier in the army, to set up a meeting.
The petition further alleges that during this meeting, Gen. Faiz Hameed assured Moeez Khan that some of the confiscated items would be returned, excluding 400 tolas of gold and a significant sum of money.
Additionally, the petition accuses former ISI officials Irtaza Haroon, Sardar Najaf, Wasim Tabish, Zahid Mehmood Malik, and Mohammad Munir of being complicit in the unlawful takeover of the housing society.
