Pakistani weightlifter Nooh Dastgir Butt has become first Pakistani gold medalist in Commonwealth championship of powerlifting.
Butt made an international debut for powerlifting on Thursday. He competed at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Classic and Equipped Championships.
He achieved remarkable victory by winning gold in the squat event. This competition took place in South Africa.
Butt lifted 370 kilograms in his first-ever powerlifting competition and became a recipient of the Pride of Performance Award and a Commonwealth Games gold medalist.
This victory made Butt Pakistan’s first gold medalist in the sport of powerlifting.
To share his feelings as a winner Butt took to Instagram. “Won gold medal at Commonwealth Classic Powerlifting Championships 2024. Stop me if you can, this Butt is not going to stop”, he proudly stated.
Dastgir Butt also shared that he is preparing for the next events including the bench press and deadlift. He is confident to excel in these categories as well.
He said in an Instagram post that he will secure two more gold medals in these events. Butt wrote that he has a goal to win the overall championship title in the 120kg+ category.
“I’ll return to home with a total of four gold medals”, he said.
Butt belongs to Gujranwala, a city renowned for wrestlers. He began his weightlifting journey when he was 11. By the time he reached 18, and he had started to make a name for himself on the international stage.
