Tim Walz, running mate of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, promised equal role of Muslim Americans in their administration if they win the election.
In America many voters are frustrated with the Biden administration’s strong support for Israel. Muslim voters are angry over the ongoing conflict in Gaza against Hamas.
In this situation Harris and Walz are reaching out to Muslim voters. Harris has expressed support for Israel while calling for a ceasefire. Walz shared her sentiments and promised to include Muslims in their government.
During an online meeting hosted by Emgage Action, a Muslim advocacy group, Walz said, “Vice President Harris and I are committed to condemning all forms of anti-Islam and anti-Arab sentiments.”
He added that Muslims would be actively involved in their administration.
The election on November 5 is expected to be competitive, especially in Michigan, which has a large Muslim population.
Emgage supports Harris but Muslim groups have urged voters not to back her. They are frustrated by the Democratic Party’s refusal to allow a Palestinian speaker at their convention.
Walz also talked about the devastation in Gaza, where over 41,000 Palestinians have died in the ongoing military offensive.
Other speakers, including Senator Chris Van Hollen and Attorney General Keith Ellison, suggested that Harris could take a different approach to Middle East issues than Biden.
Ellison noted that Harris listens and adapts, offering hope for change.
American Muslims oppose Trump, some are considering Green Party candidate Jill Stein as an alternative.
