The federal government is likely to extend the deadline for Virtual Private Network (VPN) registration beyond November 30 at the request of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
PTA has requested the Interior ministry to extend the deadline of the registration of VPN. Interior ministry who has the authority to extend the timeline is expected to grant this request.
As per PTA reports, over 200 VPN are being registered daily. However, the department is consulting about the registration process with the stakeholders. Many stakeholders have urged for a longer registration window and a more simplified procedure
Previously, the Ministry of Interior has issued the orders for VPN registration by the November deadline, warning that unregistered VPNs would be blocked starting December 1.
Now the PTA has requested the Ministry to extend this deadline to wind up the process.
Earlier PTA has announced to formulate a more streamline procedure for registering VPNs, especially for businesses and freelancers. According to a PTA statement, software houses, embassies, call centers, banks and freelancers can now register their VPNs through the PTA’s official website.
Additionally, members of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) can utilize this facility. The registration process involves completing an online form and submitting basic information.
Remember that VPN is an extension that allows users to browse the regional restricted websites. In countries where internet access to certain social media sites is restricted, users can change their location with the help of a VPN to access these sites.
