Actress Ushna Shah has openly discussed her challenges with elevated testosterone levels, which she attributes to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
In recent social media posts, Shah revealed that she shares this struggle with many women in Pakistan, approximately one in five, who experience PCOS—a condition characterized by increased levels of the male hormone testosterone.
Shah’s disclosure highlights the widespread yet often misunderstood nature of PCOS. She pointed out that the condition, marked by hormonal imbalances, can lead to symptoms like excessive body hair, medically known as hirsutism.
The actress shared with her followers that while high testosterone levels have given her more muscle strength and energy, these traits do not detract from her femininity. She emphasized that despite the hormonal changes, she remains fully female and retains her feminine attributes.
Shah’s comments come amid broader discussions about hormonal conditions, particularly following recent controversies like that involving Algerian athlete Imane Khelif, who faced disqualification from the Paris Olympics due to high testosterone levels.
This incident sparked debate over gender identity and highlighted the need for increased understanding and sensitivity towards such medical conditions.
