The United States of America (US) has imposed sanctions on six Hong Kong and Chinese companies accused of supplying parts for Iran’s drone program.
According to the US Treasury Department, the companies were involved in purchasing unmanned aerial vehicle parts for blacklisted Iranian firm Peshtazan Kavish Gostar Bushra and its subsidiary Narin Sefer Mobin Isatis, which are key suppliers to Iran’s drone and ballistic missile programs.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said Iran is continuing to seek out new companies and third-country suppliers to procure parts for its drone weapons program, and the United States is determined to thwart these schemes.
Iran’s mission to the United Nations and the Chinese embassy in Washington were not immediately available for comment.
The new sanctions, which freeze any assets of the targeted companies in the United States and bar American citizens from doing business with them, are a continuation of President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign on Iran, which began during his first term and which he has renewed this month.
