Pak vs Ind: In anticipation of the highly anticipated high-stakes Twenty20 World Cup 2024 encounter between bitter rivals Pakistan and India, the US has promised “extra security” for the June 9 game at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Speaking to Indian media, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman stated, “We’ve been preparing up for that match because we know it’s one of the biggest in the world and we’ll have additional safety measures that day.”
His comments follow last week’s increased security measures implemented by the municipal government in response to threats of assault issued by a terrorist organization.
Blakeman disclosed the specifics of the security plan for the big day, stating that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Nassau County Police Department, the New York State Police, the State Park Police, the Port Authority Police, the MTA Police, the fire marshal, volunteer firefighters, and members of the Customs and Border Patrol are among the agencies they have enlisted to help.
“We anticipate that nothing untoward will happen, but we’ll be prepared for anything that does. But we’re prepared if that happens,” he remarked.
The promise from the Nassau County official comes after Commissioner Patrick Ryder of the Nassau Country Police Department said that the game’s location will be the “safest place” for the Pak vs Ind match.
At the same time, “robust” security measures have been emphasized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for all sites during the major event.
