US Elections 2024: The US political season is intensifying, and as former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden get ready for their first debate of the 2024 election cycle, the political scene is a flurry of excitement. The debate, which is scheduled for next week, is anticipated to be a pivotal point in this year’s campaign.
Both Biden and Trump will formally declare for the US Elections 2024 presidential race throughout the course of the summer. But next week on CNN, they will square off in what promises to be an intense campaign that will see them face off at least twice before the election on November 5.
On Thursday, June 27, the much awaited discussion is scheduled to begin at 9:00 PM EST (1:00 AM GMT). CNN, CNN International, CNN en Español, CNN Max, and the CNN website will all carry the live broadcast of the event.
The discussion will last ninety minutes, with two commercial breaks. Veteran CNN anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash will preside. To choose the podium location and the sequence of final remarks, the candidates have previously flipped a coin. The Biden team opted for tails, which means that Trump will stand on the left side of the screen and the president will be on the right. Biden made his last remarks first because Trump chose to have the final say.
Biden invited Trump to two debates in May, and Trump accepted right away. In addition to the CNN debate the following week, there will be another discussion on ABC News on September 10. Biden has refused to support Trump’s demand for more debates in front of live audiences.
Contrary to reports that Biden had asked for a seat, both candidates would remain upright for the discussion. During the event, including breaks, campaign personnel is not permitted to mingle with the candidates. There will be pens, pads of paper, and bottles of water available for each contender; but, props and prepared notes are not allowed. Unlike in the past, there will be no microphone sound during the debate other than when a candidate is speaking. There won’t be a studio audience either since CNN is dedicated to promoting polite conversation.
