The United States has called for the respect of the basic human rights and freedom amid the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) protest.
Addressing the escalating tensions in Pakistan regarding the PTI protest, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that Pakistani authorities should respect the freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful demonstration.
“We support freedom of speech around the world, including Pakistan. We also call on the demonstrators to protest peacefully and avoid any violence”, spokesperson stated.
Mathew stressed that Pakistani authorities should formulate a suitable policy amid these protests according to Pakistani law.
This statement from US State Department come after tensions escalated during the clash between the PTI supporters and security personnels. In these clashes a ranger is martyred while many personnels sustained injuries.
Previously, such incidents of violence have been recorded in many areas. As per reports more than 100 police personnel got injuries so far in these clashes at the hands of protesters.
On the other hand, the PTI supporters from across the country faced arrests, baton charges, and tear gas as they attempted to join the protest at Islamabad D-Chowk.
Notably, PTI workers have managed to reach Islamabad despite facing numerous obstacles. Meanwhile, security forces remain on high alert to stop the protesters, and tensions continue to rise over time.
