UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, was shot dead outside a hotel in Midtown Manhattan early Wednesday morning.
As per police reports this tragic incident occurred near the Hilton on Sixth Avenue, just ahead of UnitedHealth’s annual investor conference. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Thompson succumbed to his injuries shortly after the attack.
Authorities got the footage of this incident that showed the culprit was masked and carrying a gray bag. He fled the scene on foot before escaping on an electric bike into Central Park.
Authorities claimed that the attack was a planned attempt to kill the CEO. “This does not appear to be a random act of violence.” New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated. However, the motive for killing CEO is still veiled.
Police also investigated Thompson wife who disclosed that her husband had received life threats before the incident. She added that the attack might have stemmed from disputes related to insurance coverage.
After this sad incident UnitedHealth CEO Andrew Witty canceled the investor conference.
