Ukraine carried out a major drone and missile attack on various regions of Russia at night, damaging two industrial factories and forcing schools to close in the large southern Russian city of Engels.
According to Russian news channels, during the attack, Russia shot down more than 200 Ukrainian drones and five US-made ATACMS ballistic missiles.
Experts reported that these attacks were part of a coordinated and large-scale operation against Russia.
The governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, confirmed that Ukraine had carried out missile strikes but did not specify which missiles were used.
Roman Basargin, the governor of Saratov, said that an industrial plant in the city of Engels had been damaged, but gave no further details.
Classes in schools in Saratov and Engels have been temporarily moved online. In addition, flight restrictions have been imposed in several Russian cities, including Kazan, Penza, Ulyanovsk, and Nizhny Novgorod.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on November 21 successfully tested a new hypersonic ballistic missile, the Oreshnik. Putin said it was a response to the US and British missile strikes by Ukraine.
Putin warned that the Ukraine war was heading towards a global conflict and that the West should be prepared for a possible counterattack.
On the other hand, newly elected US President Donald Trump has called for a ceasefire and negotiations, which has cast doubt on the long-term US support for Ukraine.
