Following significant disclosures about hundreds of wealthy property owners in Dubai, two United Arab Emirates (UAE) embassies reiterated their dedication and gravity in protecting the world financial system.
The country takes its role to protect the integrity of the international financial system very seriously,” the UAE’s embassies in Norway and the United Kingdom said in statements.
However, the UAE authorities, including those from the ministries of justice, the economy, and the interior, as well as Dubai Police, did not answer specific inquiries.
The UAE embassies released a statement in which they said that the nation is still pursuing international criminals and closely collaborating with other nations to obstruct and discourage the financing of illicit activities.
It also stated, “Today and in the long run, the UAE is committed to continuing these efforts and actions more than ever.”
The reaction followed the discovery of the ownership of properties in Dubai owned by members of the international elite through a collaborative investigative journalism initiative.
The “Dubai Unlocked” initiative was unveiled on Tuesday. It is based on data that offers a thorough summary of hundreds of thousands of properties in Dubai as well as details on who owns them or how they are used, mostly from 2020 and 2022.
This research excludes properties in commercial districts and those bought under corporate names.
Political figures, those under international sanctions, suspected money launderers, and criminals are all on the list. The cumulative worth of the Pakistanis who have been identified on the list is estimated to be close to $11 billion.
