In Kot Addu city, Punjab, a 28-year-old man, participating in Itikaf at a mosque, reportedly sexually assaulted a 13-year-old boy.
The National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC) announced on Thursday that the accused man has been apprehended.
In a Facebook post, the NCRC shared details of the case, affirming, “Following up on the matter, NCRC liaised with the district police office in Muzaffargarh, and it has been reported that the perpetrator has been arrested.”
The commission emphasized its commitment to ensuring justice and holding the perpetrator accountable.
It remains unclear whether the Muzaffargarh District Police Officer (DPO) personally confirmed the arrest or if it was conveyed by another official.
The victim was participating in Aitkaf at a mosque in Sanawan Bukhi Chowk when the alleged incident occurred involving another individual who was also observing Aitkaf, according to reports.
Initially, the suspect had evaded capture, with the mosque’s imam reporting that the suspect had threatened him with severe consequences. The victim was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical evaluation.
Station House Officer Shahid Rizwan Mahota had previously stated that the suspect would be apprehended soon.
