Federal ministers in Pakistan are entitled to a monthly salary of Rs 200,000, while members of the National Assembly earn Rs 156,000 per month.
These figures were shared by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar during a recent Senate session.
Tarar revealed that ministers do not receive official vehicles but are provided Rs 8,000 monthly to cover bills.
While their official salary stands at Rs 200,000, many ministers choose not to draw the full amount. They are also entitled to a 1500cc vehicle and 400 liters of fuel, with no additional benefits.
Earlier in the year, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his cabinet decided to relinquish their salaries and perks as part of austerity measures.
This move underscored the government’s commitment to reducing unnecessary expenditures and promoting financial discipline.
Separately, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) mandated all parliamentarians and provincial assembly members to declare their assets, including those of their spouses and dependents, by December 31.
These declarations, covering the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, had to be submitted on Form B.
On January 1 each year, the ECP publishes a list of lawmakers who fail to comply with this requirement, emphasizing transparency and accountability in public office.
