Donald Trump is to be sworn in as U.S. 47th president, starting a new four-year term as the president of the united states.
He has threatened to expand presidential authority, deport millions of immigrants, and punish political opponents.
Trump also plans to use aggressive policies and decisions to change America’s position in the world.
His advisors unveiled several executive orders ahead of his noon ET (1700 GMT) inauguration.
Ten of the policies pertain to immigration and border security, which remain his number one priority.
In an effort to justify his moves, the president will be declaring a national emergency at the southern border.
In line with this, he is sending armed personnel into the border area.
He would also reinstate a policy where asylum seekers will wait in Mexico to make appearances in court in the United States.
The inauguration by Trump is used to celebrate the political resurrection of the controversial leader. He managed to survive attempts at assassination, a felony conviction, and two impeachment trials.
He seems unfazed by the very fact that he was indicted over his efforts in undoing the result of the 2020 elections.
The ceremony is to take place in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol, a very symbolic venue.
Four years ago, a mob of Trump supporters stormed the very same Capitol, trying to overthrow the election’s results.
In that violent act, the deep political divides the country had harbored under him were revealed.
Because of freezing temperatures, the first time in 40 years the inauguration will take place indoors. It marks a radical break with the past, but it is these challenges that now define the American presidency.
President Trump’s re-election is supposed to redefine not only his own legacy.
However, his second term is expected to be as tumultuous and crucial as his first.
