United states (US) President Donald Trump has announced on Monday that he will impose fresh tariffs targeting the imports of steel and aluminium.
According to American iron and steel institute, Canada and Mexico are the largest source of US steel imports followed by south Korea and Vietnam .
According to BBC News , Trump threatened the new 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports would affect “every body” including its largest trading partners Canada and Mexico.
“If they charge us, we charge them,” Trump warned.
While Canada is the biggest supplier of aluminium metal into the US and Mexico is also the largest steel trading partner of US, these new tariffs will have a big blow to their economies.
Earlier this month, Trump threatened to impose 25% import duties on Canadian and Mexico products but later delayed that plan for 30 days.
Now on Sunday again speaking to abroad Air force one, Trump said that he would announce tariffs on every body for steel and aluminium.
Responding to new announcement, Doug ford, the premier of the province of Ontario, accused US’s President of “Shifting goalposts and constant chaos, putting our economy at risk”.
Trump tariffs are the central part of his economic policy. Earlier this month, Trump announced tariffs on imports from china ,which in response announced retaliatory tariffs on US exports.
During his first term, he went into trade war with china and put tariffs on Chinese goods in a bid to downsize China’s growing economy.
He also had pledged to double down the tariffs on Chinese goods during his election campaigns.
