Three retired military personnel were detained on Thursday for their alleged involvement in court martial proceedings against former spymaster Faiz Hameed for allegedly victimizing the owner of a private housing society, according to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
According to the announcement, three retired officers were held in military prison for “actions prejudicial to military discipline.”
According to the military’s public affairs department, three retired officers are also being held in military detention in relation to Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed’s FGCM proceedings because of their conduct that undermine military discipline.
“Investigations into specific retired officers and their associates for inciting unrest on behalf of and in coordination with entrenched political interests are still ongoing.”
The former director of the top Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, Gen. Hameed, was arrested by the army on Monday in an unusual move due to alleged violations of the Army Act. A top military officer invited General Hameed for a meeting, and the source said that he was taken into custody from Rawalpindi.
The action broke the long-standing belief that spy chiefs were untouchable in the nation where generals have long held unmatched power. It was sparked by accusations of misbehavior made by the owner of a private housing society.
In order to justify taking action against the former spymaster, the army cited a November 2023 Supreme Court of Pakistan directive, which directed Khan Moeez Khan, the owner of Islamabad’s Top City housing society, to pursue redress of grievances against Gen. Hameed through appropriate channels, including the Ministry of Defence.
