Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari dubbed PTI as terrorist entity, condemning its protest.
“They [PTI] insist to hold protest at D-Chowk despite warning from Mohsin Naqvi [Interior Minister],” says Ms Bokhari.
Talking to a local TV, she referred to Mohsin Naqvi statement in which the minister advised the PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) to postpone their rallies. “Foreign dignitaries, including the Malaysian prime minister are visiting Islamabad. PTI should deferred their Friday rallies,” Bokhari mentioned Naqvi’s statement.
She said if the PTI would not understand the sensitivity of situation, the government would not allow them to enter Islamabad.
PTI planned protests in D-Chowk on Friday against the proposed amendment in the constitution. They are also demanding release of their leader Imran Khan. The incarcerated leader of the PTI (Imran Khan) also backed the protest call.
But the protest call coincides with the final day of the Malaysian prime minister’s visit and the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
Considering the situation, the authorities have enforced Section 144 also implementing the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act, 2024. The act passed recently restricts public gatherings in Islamabad.
Naqvi urged PTI to reconsider protest plans, issuing warning against ignoring the government request. He said the government would take strict measures to ensure public order.
Bokhari accused the PTI of acting against Pakistan’s development, referring to “past acts” of the party.
Questioning PTI’s performance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, she urged people to stay away from it.
