Defense minister of Syria has declared an end to the military operation against loyalists of previous regime in the coastal regions of Latakia and Tartous.
The operation that started on Thursday has killed over 1500 people, that were alleged supporters of Bashar al-Assad.
Reports are suggesting that mostly the people were civilian.
In a statement released by the Defense Ministry on Monday, it is confirmed that military had succeeded in neutralizing the threat posed by remnants of Assad’s regime.
Bashar al-Assad regime was toppled by the rebels few months back. Since, then the current regime is repelling the Assad’s loyalists.
“Having achieved the neutralization of security threats, we announce the end of the military operation,” Defense Ministry spokesman Ghani said.
He also added that Security forces have absorbed the attack and pushed them back from strategic locations.
According to the Human rights report nearly 1500 people had been killed in the violence since the start of operation.
The conflict had erupted between new government and Pro-Assad forces in the strong holds of Bashar al-Assad.
However, the Interim President Ahmad Al Shara has announced an independent Committee to investigate the deaths.
The defense ministry also vowed full Cooperation with the committee to uncover the facts.
The country is still under the unrest as fresh clashes erupted in the capital, Damascus. In the capital, armed men attacked the government building.
Though two people were arrested, others got escaped.
After the deadly attacks by Pro-Assad’s forces in coastal regions, the new government army launched an indiscriminate operation in the area.
The revenge killing has reportedly killed thousand plus people.
Meanwhile, in the course of violence, the new government had levelled serious allegations on Iran for its involvement in the unrest.
