Sudan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Saleh Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Siddiq, visited the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) headquarters in Karachi, accompanied by Honorary Consul Aleem Adil Sheikh and a delegation.
The visit aimed to discuss avenues for economic cooperation against the backdrop of Sudan’s ongoing political and humanitarian crisis.
During the meeting, Ambassador Siddiq highlighted the severe challenges Sudan faces, including political instability, economic disruption, and a dire humanitarian situation. Discussions centered on identifying opportunities for Pakistani exports and exploring practical measures to strengthen bilateral trade ties amid Sudan’s industrial and production struggles.
Both sides underscored the need for regular engagement, including exchange of delegations and consistent communication between FPCCI and Sudan’s business community. They called for collaborative efforts to enhance trade relations and economic partnerships.
FPCCI Vice President Asif Inam welcomed the Sudanese delegation and presented a commemorative shield to the ambassador. Vice President Zahid Iqbal Chaudhry expressed concern over the devastating impact of Sudan’s 19-month-long conflict and recent floods, which have displaced over 10 million people and left 2.5 million on the brink of starvation.
Chaudhry praised the humanitarian efforts of Pakistani organizations, including Al-Khidmat Foundation, in providing aid to Sudan. He urged the business community and philanthropists to intensify support during this critical time.
The meeting concluded with a joint appeal from the Sudanese Ambassador and FPCCI for the international community to take immediate and effective steps toward restoring peace and stability in Sudan. Chaudhry emphasized the global moral responsibility to address the famine, poverty, and political turmoil plaguing the country.
