The Punjab government has banned the entry of heavy traffic in the provincial capital Lahore due to smog factor.
Provincial environment department says the trucks and other traffic will not enter in the city on Fridays and Sundays.
The department applied the ban for over three months, from November 8 to January 31, as per announcement. However, heavy traffic to allow entry from Sunday to Thursday.
The department announced that trucks carrying essential goods such as fuel, medicines, food etc will not be banned. The traffic police will check the traffic at every entry point.
The provincial government has taken the step to keep the city safe from environmental disaster and lower the smog. It has already closed the primary schools in the city for a week. All private and government schools will remain closed due to smog in Lahore, announced the provincial minister on Sunday.
The minister has also hinted at taking the matter with neighbouring country, India. Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb said the Punjab government will request the foreign office to take the matter with New Delhi. The government says the smog is entering the city from Indian Punjab.
Lahore has become the most polluted city in the world due to smog as air quality index crossed multiple time to the average level fit for human living.
