Journalist Nasrullah Gadani, known for his bold reporting against feudal lords and waderas of Sindh, was attacked by unknown assailants with gun fires.
He has been shifted to hospital with serious injuries. Reports say armed men riding on motorcycle sprayed Gadani with bullets at 11am on Wednesday near Kori Goth, 12 kilometres from Mirpur Mathelo, district Ghotki. He was coming to his hometown on motorcycle when attacked.
Gadani works for a Sindhi language newspaper daily Awami Awaz. He also posts his reports on social media. Locals say he had no personal enmity with anyone. The journalist was shifted to Sheikh Zayed Medical College Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan, for surgery. Doctors say his condition is so far out of danger. Journalists unions and the opposition parties including the PTI have condemned the incident and called for transparent investigation.
Media persons are subjected to torture and deadly attacks in Pakistan different areas for years. Sindh where the Pakistan People’s Party has been ruling for more than 15 years is notorious for attacks on journalists.
