The PTI’s command today has served a show cause to Sher Afzal Marwat asking him to explain his position explicitly for damaging the party’s reputation through his statements and implicitly for affecting Mr. Khan’s relationship with Saudi Crown Prince – Muhammad Bin Salman. This notice states that Marwat damaged the party’s and its founder chairman’s reputation by issuing irresponsible statements. It didn’t explain irresponsible statements and gave Marwat three days to clarify his position or face otherwise.
The PTI’s General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan issued this notice. However, this notice to Marwat has raised several questions about this party and its leadership. This notice of the PTI’s main secretariat to Mr. Marwat can be analyzed from different perspectives.
If this notice was issued over irresponsible statements, then what about that statement of a PTI stalwart in which it was said “If there is no Imran Khan then there is no Pakistan” What about the statements of Senator Ijaz Chaudhry for ransacking the Jinnah House in Lahore and of Dr. Yasmin Rashid for attacking the Corps Commander House. What about the statement of KP’s Chief Minister for attacking and capturing the federal capital? Did PTI serve any notice to them on such statements or did this party consider them good for its reputation? If it was issued over affecting Khan’s relationship with Saudi Arabia then what this party did when its founding chairman himself damaged this relationship with Saudi Arabia?
Mr. Khan was all the way set to inaugurate an organization in Malaysia believing it to be more powerful than the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) how the Saudi prince reacted to the action of Mr. Khan is perhaps concealed from those issuing notice to Marwat but is known to all in Pakistan. How the former prime minister mocked the royal family in a hotel in Saudi Arabia and then passed remarks about this family on a plane, launching a Turkish derma serial on PTV will also tell how Mr. Khan was concerned about his relationship with Saudi Arabia. His foreign minister’s (Shah Mehmood Qureshi) statement about the Saudi Kingdom on a TV show will also highlight how PTI needed a relationship with Arabia.
Mr. Omar Ayub Khan earlier said that PTI was taking action against Marwat for his statement alleging Prince Muhammad Bin Salman dislodging PTI’s government in Pakistan. He said that this statement aimed at creating damage to PTI’s relations with the Kingdom. It is said the Saudi ambassador in Pakistan expressed concern over Marwat’s statement. Interestingly honorable leader of the opposition also advised the Saudi Foreign Minister to keep in view the law and order’s situation in Pakistan before making any investments in Pakistan. was it really a responsible statement for PTI when Saudi FM expressed Pakistan’s work for inviting foreign investment in Pakistan as impressive Mr. Omar advised him to remain careful? The PTI should also feel some concern when Chinese cancelled his visit to Pakistan as this party was on roads and it also forgot about Pakistan China relationship when was closing CEPEC projects.
Though, discrediting leaders is not with PTI particularly when looked at Jangir Tareen, Javed Hashmi, Aleem Khan and some other, but aggression against Sher Afzal looks possibly for three two reasons. Firstly, some PTI leaders are jealous of Marwat for his rising populace politics. Mr. Marwat earlier is on record saying Omar Ayub, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra are not happy with him and were lobbying against him in front of Khan. Secondly, PTI feels that Marwat perhaps was launched in PTI by the military establishment. Imran Khan earlier nominated Marwat as the chairman of the Public Account Committee in the National Assembly but later replaced his with an MNA from Jhang – Sheikh Waqas Akram -for this position. Marwat was also reportedly removed from some important committees of the party and bared from meting Khan.
The third possible reason could be this that Sher Afzal was being sacrificed to level a filed for repairing relationship with Saudi Arabia which Mr. Khan earlier damaged. Tis might be for the reason to seek Saudi help over taking Khan out of jail and escape any possible action under May 9 riots. The PTI served this notice to Marwat today and not on the day when he issued the said statement on Saudi involvement. Why this was not taken serious before Saudi Ambassador showed concerns? It is a question that persists.
