Former Federal Minister for Interior of Pakistan and leader of the Awami Muslim League Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed expressed his detachment from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest on November 24.
The former minister added his statement that he had nothing to do with the November 24 protest.
In response to a question, Sheikh Rasheed said that he never spoke against the army and wished that relations between PTI and the army improve, but no one spoke about it.
Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said that there was no evidence in the cases against him. “If someone can prove I’m guilty, I’m ready to face consequences, he added.”
In his remarks, Rasheed stressed that currently, many cases are booked against 150 accused.
He stated that, for the first time, the army does not require their involvement. On November 24, Sheikh Rasheed distanced himself from the PTI.
He also remarked that Shehbaz Sharif attends events even if it’s just an Aqeeqah invitation.
On the other hand, the AML leader appealed to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Asim Munir, requesting leniency towards blameless individuals who got involved in an ongoing political uproar.
Speaking to the media before a hearing in the GHQ attack case, Sheikh Rashid stated that he was prepared to accept any punishment if proven guilty but called for the exoneration of innocent individuals, as reported by Express News.
He also made a direct appeal to General Asim Munir, urging him to grant clemency to the innocent while ensuring politicians face their legal proceedings.
