Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has resigned as the President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Sharif currently holds both positions: the president of the party and the prime minister of Pakistan.
PML-N sources say the party has called the meeting of Markazi Majlise Aamla (Central Working Committee) to discuss the next president of the ruling party.
Secretary General of the PML-N Ahsan Iqbal has summoned the meeting at PML-N secretariat in Model Town Lahore on Saturday May 18. He has issued invitations to the members of the working committee.
It is likely that Nawaz Sharif , the elder brother of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, becomes the PML-N president after the meeting of the working committee.
Party leaders have long been demanding the elder Sharif take charge of the key responsibility though he is already serving as the de-facto head of the PML-N and is considered main decision maker on policy issues.
