An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) formally charged former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, and others in connection with the May 9 riots, on Thursday.
The case against Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Dr. Yasmin Rashid is filed at Shadman Police Station.
The charges stem from allegations of damage to public and private properties during the May 9 unrest.
The hearing, presided over by ATC Judge Manzoor Ali Gill, took place at Kot Lakhpat Jail, where the accused were present. All defendants, including Qureshi, Rashid, and Sanam Javed, denied the charges against them.
The case was registered following violent protests triggered by the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case at Islamabad High Court on May 9, 2023.
The protests, organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, caused widespread destruction to military, civilian, and private properties. The violence led to the deaths of at least eight people and injuries to 290 others, reportedly.
