Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has accused Bilawal Bhutto of burying the constitution, drafted by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
During a casual discussion with media representatives, Qureshi voiced his vehement opposition to the proposed revisions, characterizing them as an assault on the independence of the court.
Before making any changes, Shah Mahmood Qureshi requested all political parties to thoroughly review the text and have a candid discussion.
He remarked, “Constitutional amendments are an important issue, and hurrying them through is unethical.”
He also mentioned that the assembly will soon learn about the text, which had been kept a secret from the main parties.
In addition, the PTI leader commended Maulana Fazlur Rehman for being cautious and resisting pressure to approve the suggested revisions.
“He knows that changes are not made hurriedly, and I applaud him for his conduct,” said Mahmood.
Concerning the speed at which the administration was moving, Mahmood emphasized that more than fifty changes had been put forth.
He questioned, “Why the a rush?” noting that legal professionals had already voiced its objection to the revisions.
He claims that these changes are the same as “burying the constitution.”
The government’s attempt to take authority over judicial selections and transfers was also criticized by Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who contended that this action would fundamentally change the 1973 constitution. “This is a clear onslaught on the judiciary’s autonomy, and amending the constitution in this way is illegitimate.”
He went on to warn that Parliament will turn into a “marketplace” if floor crossings were permitted.
