Pakistan is ready to host Champions Trophy, the first major International Cricket Council (ICC) event in last 30 years.
ICC Champions Trophy is set to take place in three cities of Pakistan including Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi, while some matches will be played in Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The event will be held between 19 February to 9 March.
To ensure safety and security, Punjab Government has deployed over 13000 policemen in the cities of Lahore and Rawalpindi.
More than 8000 personnel will be performing duty in Lahore. Over 5000 personnel will be securing the premises in Rawalpindi.
After militants’ attack on Sri Lankan team in 2009, Pakistan has been taking serious security measures during the international teams visit.
In 2009 Sri Lanka was on the tour of Pakistan. They were travelling for the match to Gaddafi stadium when militants attacked the bus in which players were travelling. led teams avoiding visiting Pakistan.
After the revival of cricket in 2015 in Pakistan, it has hosted Major teams in bilateral series. They traveled in Presidential level security.
Every team felt super safe their and enjoyed their stay.
Also, throughout the period foreign players who played in Pakistan Super league (PSL) visited Pakistan and love their living.
This year’s Champion Trophy will see 6 teams visiting Pakistan. However, India has decided to play India’s matches in the UAE after refusing to play in Pakistan
Their refusal was based on the excuse of security related concerns in Pakistan.
To ensure the players, fans and officials safety Punjab deployed 13000 officers in Lahore and Rawalpindi.
Senior security officials, District superintendents, inspectors and women officers will be present on the duty.
Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar said that police are doing intelligence-based operations in Lahore around the routes and players residences.
Dr Usman pledged that the authorities would ensure a secure and peaceful setting for the tournament.
He further urged the fans to follow the security protocols.
