In his opening remarks at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for sustainable development and regional cooperation in order to reduce poverty.
According to local media, he greeted the leaders of SCO member states and emphasized the need of fortifying regional relations for long-term economic growth and stability during his speech at the 23rd session of the Council of Heads of Government on Wednesday.
“Connectivity and regional cooperation are critical to sustainable development,” Shehbaz Sharif stated. “We must take advantage of every chance to give our people better amenities and a higher standard of living.”
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the SCO’s capacity to propel global advancement by pointing out that its member nations comprise 40% of the world’s population.
He emphasized the need of teamwork in achieving shared prosperity and advocated for coordinated efforts to address global issues.
Shehbaz Sharif listed a number of important topics for the summit, such as climate change, regional stability, and economic cooperation.
PM used the disastrous floods of 2022, which uprooted millions of people and severely damaged infrastructure and agriculture, to highlight how climate change has affected Pakistan.
He called on the SCO countries to come up with a coordinated plan to lessen these impacts and improve regional resilience.
