A video went viral on social media showing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on a video call with a man, reportedly said to be a Saudi Sheik.
The video gives the impression that Sheikh is praising Netanyahu for his recent actions in the Middle East. The video sparked criticism and outrage amid the ongoing tension in Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, and Iran.
Netanyahu was smiling in the video, while an Indian social media user claimed that a Saudi Sheikh praised Netanyahu for “fighting terrorists in the Middle East.”
A post on Twitter, tweeted a screenshot of the video, suggesting that a Saudi Sheikh is lauding Netanyahu’s recent actions. Frontal Force posted this tweet, presumed to be an Indian.
However, the claim was misleading. A fact check reveals that the video was recorded in December 2019. The person in the video is Mohammad Saud, a Saudi blogger known for his pro-Israel stance.
When recording the video, Netanyahu started his campaign for leadership of Israel’s Likud party, and Saud expressed his good wishes to him via video call.
A reverse image search confirms that Al-Mayadeen, a Lebanese news outlet, uploaded the video to its verified YouTube channel four years ago.
The Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine also shows a post from that time, where Saud shared a similar image of his call with Netanyahu.
Notably, Israel has killed more than 42,000 Palestinians since October 7, 2024.
