Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Thursday that his country and China are collaborating to establish a multipolar global order that is more egalitarian.
During a meeting in the capital of Laos, Vientiane, Lavrov stated that Beijing and Moscow are advancing the ideas of “genuine multilateralism,” contributing “positive energy” to the UN and the Group of 20 (G20).
He pointed out that the two nations are also actively involved in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the BRICS economic grouping.
“There are other significant international locations. Naturally, ASEAN and the broader ASEAN-centric infrastructure are among them. We have a similar stance, therefore we must take all necessary steps to save it from being destroyed,” he declared.
Lavrov is now in Vientiane for the regular ASEAN ministerial meetings, which take place in various settings such as the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), the East Asia Summit (EAS), and Russia-ASEAN.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, it plans to seize the chance to have a meaningful conversation on the extent of cooperation with the ten-member bloc in the areas of politics, security, commerce, the economy, society, and culture.
“We will use ASEAN support to advance practical initiatives on international information security, which is among Russia’s priorities on this platform,” added the statement.
