Former Indian skipper Krishnamachari Srikkanth reveals that if India doesn’t play well in five test series in Australia, Rohit Sharma will retire from the Test format as well.
Previously, Indian captain Rohit Sharma retired from T20 Internationals after winning the finals of the T20 World Cup trophy in June. The 37-year batsman struggled to pace and his leadership collapsed in the recent home test, as New Zealand white-washed India by 3-0.
In the upcoming series in Australia, India needs to win four out of five tests, to make its entry to the third World Test Championship final next year. It’s expected that Rohit will not participate in the first match on November 22 in Perth due to personal reasons.
Srikkanth remarked on his YouTube channel, “We have to start thinking ahead. I think Rohit will retire from test cricket if Rohit doesn’t do well”. He added, “He’ll play ODIs only, we have to keep in mind that his aging and left T20I.”
Former chief selector, Srikkanth said, Hats off to Rohit for accepting that he played badly in the home series and captained badly. That’s a great thing! I appreciate that its good that he accepted his shortcoming in the recent press conference.”
He added that, “In my opinion, he is on the road to recovery, and he accepted it openly”.
Rohit Sharma cricket statistics are amazing; he scored 4,270 runs in test cricket at an average of 42.27, but recent form has put him under heavy scrutiny.
He managed just one half-century in his last 10 innings, with six single-digit scores, and critics pointed to reckless shots at key moments against the Black Caps.
