No Isolation, a Norwegian company developed a small robot, AV One. Specifically designed to help sick children stay connected to their classrooms and friends while recovering at home.
According to the International media, staying away from school not only affects a kid’s education but can also impact their well-being, making them feel isolated.
The AV One robot, which resembles a human head, is equipped with a camera, microphone, and speaker.
Controlled by the child from home through an app, the robot acts as their eyes, ears, and voice in the classroom.
It rotates 360 degrees, allowing the child to interact with classmates and participate in lessons as if they were physically present.
A red button on the robot’s head lights up when the student wants to raise their hand.
Florence Salisbury, marketing director of No Isolation, shared that AV One is being used in 17 countries, with over 3,000 units in operation, particularly in Germany and the UK.
Schools in the UK can rent AV One for $200 a month or purchase it for $4,960, with an annual service package costing an additional $1,045.
Florence emphasized that the robot is unique in its ability to maintain social relationships, allowing students to stay engaged with peers.
In many UK schools, when a student is absent, their AV One robot is even taken to lunch with classmates, ensuring they remain connected and reducing the feeling of isolation.
