Rising suicides in Indian military are causing tensions, pointing to escalating mental health challenges among personnel.
Indian military officials are investigating the core reasons behind this alarming trend. This concern has emerged following a series of consecutive suicide incidents within the Indian military.
In Nagpur, an Air Force Sergeant Jaiwardhan Singh, 36, tragically died by suicide. Later it was disclosed that the officer was underscoring mental health challenges faced by service members. The Sergeant, native of Haryana, took his life while on active duty, using his service weapon.
Military officials started an investigation to find out the motive behind this tragic incident. Preliminary investigation revealed that the military officer was battling with severe mental health issues. His batch members also noted that Jaiwardhan Singh was stressed due to certain service-related issues.
Earlier to this incident another serviceman, Prem Veer from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 178 Battalion, also ended his life using his service rifle. When investigation started, it unveiled that the officer was suffering from anxiety and depression.
Additionally to this two other military personnel from Assam and Jharkhand have recently died by suicide.
All these consecutive incidents have created an alarming situation in Indian military. Senior officials have taken notice of this alarming trend and are working to identify the underlying causes of these suicides.
