Rashid Latif, a former cricket player for Pakistan, has stated that he would want to see Mohammad Rizwan return to his position of wicketkeeping in place of Azam Khan.
Speaking on a local sports show, Latif emphasized that the wicketkeeper position, which is now held by Azam, is the worst issue facing the Green Shirts at the moment.
There are two wicketkeepers on the team: Rizwan and Usman Khan. I think a senior player should take care of wicketkeeping,” he stated, emphasizing that the wicketkeeper is the captain’s most valuable asset since he is in the greatest position to see the action from behind the batsman and support the skipper as needed.
The former cricketer said, “Rizwan has been controlling the game from behind for the last four years [but] suddenly you have removed that guard,” drawing attention to the absence of communication between the captain and bowlers.
Latif’s comments coincide with the team captained by Babar Azam losing the four-match Twenty20 International series to England by a score of 2-0. Rain caused the first and third matches to be abandoned, hence the visitors lost the second and fourth matches by seven wickets and 23 runs, respectively.
Azam Khan dropped two catches behind the wicket in the series’ last match, which further hindered the national team’s attempts to tie the series.
