A Punjab University student is killed in a shooting incident outside PC Dhaba, PU famous cafe, prompting a student organization to stage a sit-in outside the campus in protest.
The injured student was rushed to the emergency department of Sheikh Zayed Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
A spokesperson from Sheikh Zayed Hospital confirmed that the victim, identified the victim as 22-year-old Rana Ammar Akhter from Kasur and a student of Gender Studies. Ammar was hit by three bullets, one in the chest, one in the stomach, and another in the leg, spokesperson says.
Despite efforts to save him, the victim passed away in the operation theatre. The body was later handed over to the police and sent for the postmortem.
This tragic incident caused severe traffic congestion along Barkat Market, Canal Road and nearby areas, as the students hold a sit-in in Quaid-e-Azam campus.
After this incident, a group of student organization reportedly attacked the Punjab University administration block. They broke the flower pots and smashed the doors in admin block.
PU administration has condemned the incident and clarified that the shooting did not occur within the university’s premises. Administration also accused the student organization of spreading misinformation.
Overall, the situation remains tense at Punjab University following the tragic incident. Students from many departments are voicing against this incident and urging the administration to take instant action against the culprit.
