Punjab government has unveiled his plans to launch special bus services for rural Women, a vital move to enhance transportation infrastructure in the province.
The decision is designed to alleviate the ongoing problems faced by women living in rural areas, according to Express news.
Women has long been facing a barrier to mobility due to lack of reliable public transport. Under the new plan a direct bus link will be established between each rural tehsil and district headquarters.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif seeks to develop an integrated transportation system connecting villages across the province.
Moreover, the government is evaluating a proposal to introduce a mass transit system consisting of 25 buses for far districts, which will be implemented in phases.
Maryam Nawaz stressed the importance of a comprehensive transport for women in rural areas. In addition, she further highlighted that the absence of public transport is significant problem there.
“It is deeply troubling to see rural women enduring such difficult travel conditions. A modern transport system is their right, and it will help boost their confidence.”, she added.
The chief Minister has instructed immediate measures to provide subsidies for female travelers within the mass transit system.
This marks Punjab’s first ever women transport solution plan. The initiative intends to make traveling easy for women in rural area.
Maryam Nawaz reiterated that new transport system would bring relief and enable easier access to education and healthcare.
In a meeting, chief Minister greenlit a five-year transportation plan to revamp the province’s public transportation system.
Officials Informed her on Automated Rapid Transit (ART)system. The system has been successfully implemented in countries such as Malaysia, Abu Dhabi and Qatar.
Participants were briefed that ART is among the most sustainable public transport systems worldwide.
