In a surprising turn of events, 25 Punjab Police officers refused to take part in a scheduled operation against bandits in the Kacha area of Rajanpur on Wednesday.
The officers, who were dispatched from Farooqabad Constabulary, disembarked from their bus near Zahir Pir Interchange four days ago, refusing to proceed to the operation site.
According to the sources, the officers informed their in-charge that they were unwilling to participate in the operation, citing concerns for their own safety.
Despite being part of a team deployed to handle the sensitive mission in the volatile Kacha region, the officers stated that they were personally responsible for their own welfare and would not proceed further.
The in-charge of the operation reported the incident to higher authorities, and recommended disciplinary action against the officers for their refusal to comply with orders.
The report was forwarded to senior police officials for further consideration.
In response to the situation, Inspector General (IG) Punjab Usman Anwar immediately dispatched a replacement team of officers to ensure the operation in the Kacha area could proceed without delay.
The replacement personnel since arrived in Rahim Yar Khan, and IG Anwar assured that the operation would now continue with the full strength of the police force, saying that no officer would be absent from the duty.
