Punjab and Islamabad have implemented Section 144, which restricts gatherings, processions, and demonstrations prior to opposition party rallies.
The capital administration has issued a warning, threatening severe consequences for any infractions. “It is not permissible to violate Section 144 in any situation,” a district administration spokesperson declared.
It should be noted that Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) is demonstrating against a significant increase in power costs, and on Friday, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and other religious organizations declared nationwide demonstrations against the ruling made by the Supreme Court in the Mubarak Sani case.
However, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership has also said that they would hold protests on Friday in order to demand Imran Khan’s release.
Law enforcement officials have been stationed in the nation’s capital to guarantee adherence, and the public is asked to abstain from any unlawful actions.
Comparably, the Punjab Home Department has said that Section 144 will be enforced throughout the state on July 26 and 28. The notice made clear that protests, sit-ins, rallies, and public gatherings are prohibited during this time because they might serve as easy targets for terrorist attacks.
The announcement said, “The administration will ensure the order’s implementation throughout Punjab.”
This decision is motivated by worries that, given the current state of law and order and security threats, any political gathering may serve as a “soft target” for terrorists and miscreants.
The ruling made clear that these kinds of events present “serious security threats” and are likely to upset public order and peace, resulting in a great deal of annoyance for the general public.
In the interest of public safety, security, peace, and tranquility, it emphasized the significance of guaranteeing the protection of individuals as well as safeguarding installations and structures from possible terrorist or undesirable acts.
The department emphasized the necessity for Section 144 as a prompt remedy to avoid disturbances to public peace and to protect lives and property in Punjab, citing substantial reasons for immediate preventative actions.
In the meantime, the federal capital has been totally surrounded by containers, separating it from Rawalpindi and the neighboring districts.
Late at night, there was a high-level meeting to talk about the security situation. The leaders of law enforcement, local government representatives, intelligence services, and other pertinent authorities were present at the conference.
Concerns about terrorism and possible disturbances to law and order led to the imposition of Section 144 in the nation’s capital, as the participants were informed. According to law enforcement officials, the police force is outfitted and ready to tackle any undesirable situations.
