In a major development, the Punjab government made a decision to drop all political cases registered against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers, the sources said on Wednesday.
The sources said that the Punjab government directed the Advocate General of Punjab to compile records of all political cases against the PML-N activists.
“The directions have been given to dismiss all such cases in which the state is the complainant against the party workers/leaders,” said the sources.
The PML-N leaders, MPAs, organizational officials and activists were booked in the cases across Punjab. They were booked under Anti-Terrorism Act for taking out rallies for return of Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz. They were accused of having clashes with the police.
Upon their return to the country, the Buzdar government registered numerous cases against PML-N leaders.
Besides it, the hundreds of PML-N leaders and activists faced legal action during Maryam Nawaz’s appearance before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The Advocate General of Punjab started compiling records of political cases against PML-N leaders, they added.
