ISLAMABAD: PTI’s Senator and former special assistant to the prime minister, Dr Sania Nishtar was on Thursday appointed as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI).
Gavi, the global vaccine alliance which played a crucial role in the Covid-19 pandemic, said in a press release issued today that Nishtar will assume office from March 18.
As the CEO of Gavi is truly a momentous occasion as her extensive background in public health leadership and her medical expertise make her an exceptional choice for this role. Gavi’s pivotal role in global vaccination efforts, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, underscores the significance of Dr Nishtar’s leadership. Her commitment to vaccine equity, readiness for future health crises, and the promotion of routine immunization reflects her dedication to addressing pressing global health challenges,’ the statement said.

Dr. Nishtar’s previous roles as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation, as well as her experience as a federal minister with responsibilities for re-establishing Pakistan’s Ministry of Health, demonstrate her proven track record in transparent and accountable governance.
