A senior party leader said on Sunday that Ameer Sultan, a member of the National Assembly (MNA) for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had been “abducted” in Lahore by unidentified persons.
Sultan was kidnapped while at his home on Sarwar Road in the capital of Punjab, according to PTI Lahore Secretary General Hafiz Zeeshan. Sultan was elected to the lower house of the parliament after winning the elections from NA-110 in Jhang.
According to the PTI leader, party members are “unsafe” following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the reserved seats. “Unknown men arrived [at this home] in two vehicles and kidnapped him last night,” the leader added.
As a result of the supreme court’s decision, the PTI will have reserved seats in the National Assembly and will become largest party.
SSP Cantt Awais Shafiq responded local media by saying that no complaints regarding the PTI MNA’s purported kidnapping had been made to the police.
In response to a question from media about why there hadn’t been a complaint yet, Zeeshan stated that the party was in the process of drafting one and would deliver it to the police station on Monday.
The leader of the PTI, Asad Qaiser, questioned “[how] can a country run where politicians’ loyalties are shifted” in a statement he had received about the kidnapping of his party’s MNA.
There is no regard for the courts; the law of the jungle rules here. The rulings of the court are widely opposed,” stated the former NA speaker.
Inquiring as to whether the government would administer the nation “by force,” Qaiser also said that his party’s members would carry on their fight within the bounds of the nation’s legal system.
