Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will conduct its intra-party elections on February 5, announce the PTI officials.
The former ruling party general body meeting has also passed the resolution to hold the polls in all over the country. It also sought the applications from contestors. The party, in priciple, had decided to hold the intra-party polls before the general elections in Pakistan. The national vote will be held on Februrary 8.
PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali has also confirmed the development while talking to a local TV.
The Suprme Court, in a decision dubbed as controversial, has already deprived the former ruling party of its iconoic election symobl “Bat” for not holding the intra-party polls. All the PTI candidates are now contesting the general election as an independepts. However, different survyes put it ahead of other political rivals in terms of popularity.
Majority of the political parties in the country except the Jamaat-e-Islami hardly condcut the intra-party polls in free and fair manners. Some major parties act as a family dynties where the party polls held only to fulfill criteria of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
It is mandatory for any political party to hold party election under the ECP rules to contest in the local bodies, by and general elections.
Many believe the PTI was techincally knocked out of running its election campaign due to pressure of the country’s powerful military establishment. The PTI founder chairman Imran Khan said on many occasion that it was only his party which fulfill all democratic criteras. Imran Khan is currently imprioned under different charges. A special court has announced 10-year sentence for him in Cypher case. An accountabilty court has awarded him 14-year in jail in Toshakhana reference.
